Transforming a Family Cottage: Christine’s Cozy Kitchen & Utility Room Makeover with Material World

It was our pleasure to collaborate with Christine who you will know from Instagram as Our Kilkenny Cottage. Christine and her family moved into their home two years ago. Christine’s Father and his siblings were brought up in the cottage, which means a lot to Christine.
As Christine’s home is a cottage she wanted to maintain a classic feel throughout the house by creating a rustic vibe throughout.
From a young age, Christine has always had an interest in interior design. She used to buy interior design magazines when out shopping with her Mam and constantly looked through them for ideas for when she got to build her dream home.
When they decided to renovate and extend this cottage Christine spent a lot of time on Pinterest and Instagram and that’s where she got the inspiration to start her own Instagram account.
Christine collaborated with us on her kitchen and utility room. Her kitchen is the heart of the home, and Christine put a lot of effort into planning this space. She wanted to create a warm and welcoming space for her family and to host many family gatherings. For this space, she chose a Roman blind in the Cadiz Herringbone fabric. This fabric is a neutral shade but adds warmth to the room.

When planning each room she created a mood board, as this would help her to get an overall cohesive feel throughout the house. Christine kept her interiors quite neutral allowing for pops of colour in the rooms she felt suited this most.
For her Utility Room, she also chose a Roman Blind. For this room she chose the Zen Blue fabric which is a neutral fabric with blue stripes it adds to the room and complements the paint colour. The blinds add a touch of elegance and make the room stand out a bit more.
Christine found the process of working with us really good, she ordered her samples online and received them in a few days. Ashling was on hand to help out every step of the way throughout the entire process.

Christine’s advice when planning your window dressing is to live in the house for a while until you pick your materials and decide what exactly you want. She also advises you to pick what you want, not be influenced by what you see on Instagram, and be true to your own style.
Christine would highly recommend us as the quality of our fabrics is second to none and she is so happy with her Roman blinds. We have so many options to choose from and she would love for us to dress her windows in other rooms of her home.
