Inside Niamh's South Kilkenny Home: Her Made-to-Measure Curtain Story

We were delighted to collaborate with Niamh de Brún-Reid, the lifestyle creator behind @niamhdebrun who you will know from Instagram for sharing her beautiful South Kilkenny home. Niamh and her family have been settled into their home in Ballyhale for just over three years now.
When they first moved in, Niamh's vision for the house was clear. She wanted somewhere bright, airy and calming, with a fun and loving personality, and most of all a home where they could rear their family. Before moving in she worked with an interior designer to shape that vision, and together they landed on a modern neoclassical style that runs through every room.
Interiors were a newer passion for Niamh, sparked by the challenge of designing her own home, but from the start she wanted every room to feel intentional. The house was tackled on a room by room basis, so creating a sense of flow between spaces was important. As Niamh puts it herself, blinds and curtains really tie a room together, and that is where Material World came in.
For the family living space Niamh wanted a homely, cosy vibe without losing the quality and luxury feel that runs through the rest of the house. She chose our Marela Herringbone Cream fabric for her made-to-measure curtains, finished with an 8 inch pleat. The herringbone weave is beautifully luxurious, the soft cream tone keeps the room feeling light, and it is a fabric that will stand the test of time. As Niamh pointed out, if she ever decides to change the theme of the home down the line, these curtains will still suit the space.

Niamh paired the curtains with our motorised track system, and it has been a real standout for her in the finished room. There is no need to touch the curtains at all, which keeps the fabric clean and pristine, and the smooth automated draw gives the living space that luxury hotel feel she was after.

The ordering process was an easy one. Niamh visited our Naas showroom to see the fabrics in person, and when she changed her mind on samples a few times we posted them down to her so she could make her final call from home. She was particularly complimentary about our team's product knowledge, telling us they were able to guide her once she had explained the vibe and theme she was going for.

Niamh's golden piece of advice for anyone choosing curtains or blinds is to think about quality and longevity, choosing fabrics that will still suit your home if your style evolves over time. It is advice we stand behind, and her finished living room is a perfect example of it in practice.
