Inside Blathnàid's Family Home: Her Made-to-Measure Roman Blind Story

See how interiors creator Blathnàid dressed her family den with made-to-measure roman blinds in our Linen look cream fabric and Milano Greige braid.
We were delighted to collaborate with Blathnàid, the face behind @housebythestonebridge, who you will know from Instagram for sharing her beautiful family home. Blathnàid lives there with her husband and their four children. By day she works as a health and safety manager, and in the evenings and at weekends, her passion is interiors.
A home that blends old and new
Blathnàid describes her style as classic with a minimalist touch. She loves the cosy cottage look, alongside Victorian and Georgian influences, and the house brings all three together with a mix of old and new.
Her inspiration goes back to childhood. Blathnàid has always loved old houses, so when the family came to build their own home, there were two features she was set on from the start: Georgian style windows and old arches. Those details give the house its character, and they made the windows an important part of every room's design.

A cosy den for the whole family
The den started out as a TV room for the children. As they grew older, Blathnàid wanted to make it a space the adults could enjoy too, somewhere the kids could still play their games on the TV, but cosy enough for everyone to use. It is now one of the most used rooms in the house, especially in winter, when the fire is lit and the room feels warm and inviting the moment you walk in.
For this room, Blathnàid wanted neutral colours. She wanted the window dressing to blend with the shelving and the cushions, and to bring together the mix of colours already in the space. Just as importantly, she wanted a fabric that would still work if she changed her cushions or her couch over time.
When she visited our showroom in Naas, she found a wide selection of colours to choose from. Our team suggested our Linen look cream fabric to suit the room, paired with our Milano Greige braid running down each side of the blind. The result is a luxurious finish that still feels subtle.
Blathnàid loves the texture of the fabric, which brings a little country feel to the room. The flecks of colour within it pick up the blue couch and patterned cushions, so the five roman blinds tie the whole space together. As she put it herself, the minute the blinds went up, she was over the moon.

From measuring to fitting
Blathnàid found the whole process seamless. She entered her measurements online, then came up to our showroom in Naas to choose her fabric. From there, everything went like clockwork.
Installation was just as straightforward. Her husband fitted the roman blinds himself, and with everything clearly laid out, they were up within 15 minutes.

Blathnàid's advice for dressing windows
Her biggest tip is not to go too bold. A strong window dressing can leave you trying to match your cushions and couches to it, rather than the other way around.
Instead, Blathnàid keeps her windows in a neutral tone with a hint of colour, and lets the accessories in the room do the rest. That way, the blinds work with any colour scheme, and they blend in naturally every time she changes the room.
Blathnàid would highly recommend Material World to anyone doing up or revamping a room. In her own words, it comes down to the quality of the fabric, the professionalism of the team, and how well the blinds are made, right down to the mechanisms. She would happily go back to us again, and she is already thinking about which room to do next.
Thank you, Blathnàid, for letting us be part of your beautiful home.
