Dressing Willow Cottage - Jenny’s Made-to-Measure Story

Jenny, the voice behind the Instagram account Building Willow Cottage, has been on a three-year journey of turning her house into a true home. Inspired by the coastal surroundings and a desire to create a warm, safe environment for her family and friends, she has carefully approached each room with thought, creativity, and intention.
“I spent a lot of time researching the sort of vibe that I wanted to create within our home,” Jenny explains. From Pinterest boards to scrapbooks and mood boards, she left no stone unturned. “Mood boards are such a useful way to see how everything will come together, and they give you confidence in your choices.”
As the teenager of the family, Jenny knew it was important he had autonomy over the space. “Anybody with a teenager will understand how important it is to involve them in the decisions,” she says.

After working with a colour consultant to narrow down options, Jenny presented a palette to her son. To her delight, he chose the linen-look navy fabric — the very one she had secretly hoped for. “It has a rugged, masculine feel while still being super soft and elegant. It feels durable yet refined — exactly what we wanted.”
To elevate the look even further, they decided to add the Loire Silver braid. “At first we considered matching the navy, but going with silver gave it a timeless finish. It ties the colour scheme of the whole room together beautifully.”

Like many busy families, simplicity was key. Jenny contacted Material World to request fabric samples, which arrived almost immediately. Together, she and her son reviewed them and made their final choice.
“The ordering process couldn’t have been more straightforward,” she recalls. “Ashling at Material World gave me advice to make sure we were on the right track. Once we confirmed our measurements and fabric, the blind was ready in no time.”
Installation, she laughs, was her husband’s department. “The mechanism made it so simple to fit. The blind hasn’t moved an inch since — the quality is just excellent.”
For Jenny, the made-to-measure blind transformed her son’s bedroom into a sanctuary. “It really elevated the entire space,” she says. “Sometimes one piece can completely change how a room feels.”
She’s quick to recommend Material World to others: “The quality is unmatchable compared to what’s out there. I’m already looking forward to designing the next bedrooms with Material World.”
