Measuring Guide | Curtains
The Material World guide to help you correctly measure for your made to measure curtains.
This is a guide for 8” butterfly pleat (2 pinch pleat curtains). If you have a different type of heading tape in mind, please phone us in the shop on 045-879663.

Step 1: Measuring the Curtain Width
Determining the width for your curtains is a straightforward process. Depending on your setup, follow these steps.
If you have a curtain pole, measure the width of the pole itself, excluding the end finials (decorative ends).
If you're using a track, measure the total width of the track.

Step 2: Measuring the Finished Length
The finished length is the measurement from the top of the curtain to the bottom of the curtain.
If using a pole, the drop is taken from the bottom of the curtain pole ring to where you want the curtain to end.
If using a track, the drop is taken from the top of the track to where you want the curtain to end.
If your track is ceiling fixed rather than wall fixed please phone the shop to discuss this.
No Pole or Track Installed Yet?
If you haven't set up a pole or track, we suggest doing so before proceeding with measurements.
However, if that's not the case, here's how to proceed:
Step 1: Determine Your Fixture Type
Begin by having an idea of the kind of pole or track you intend to use.
Step 2: Fixing Position
Decide where you will position your pole or track. For a standard window without architraves, we recommend that poles and tracks extend beyond the window's width by at least 15cm (6") on each side. We also recommend going up at least 15cm (6”) above the window with your pole if you have the space.
Step 3: The Measuring Process
The measuring process aligns with the principles outlined in Steps 1 and 2 of our Measuring Guide above. To facilitate this, consider making small pencil marks to confirm your satisfaction with the top and hem positions.
